Other Influential Texts
Evanescence -My Immortal
Paramore- Brick by Boring Brick
The things from this video that we want to use or are inspired by are the white lacy dress, the location, the natural looking make up, the fantasy aspect and the camera angles that capture emotion well. This video uses a lot of editing in terms of colour to make it look 'unreal'. We won't be using this effect but it did give us ideas about our what effect we will use.
Christina Perri - Jar of Hearts
The things from this video that we want to use or are inspired by are how the camera captures emotion using close ups, the colour and lighting effects, the white lacy dress, the grunge boots and how the story and performance shots intertwine. The fashion that we want to use for our video was heavily based on this video. Also we want to use a similar kind of lighting and colour effect for our video to make it look 'gloomy'.
Biography
The Dejected are a relatively new band who formed in 2008 as a soft rock band. The band is made up of Frankie (22) on vocals, Jay (21) on guitar and Johnno (22) on keyboard. They are based in south Sheffield where all members grew up apart from Matt, who they met in 2006 at an early gig at The Shed in Leicester. After the success of their debut album, ‘Pipelines’ they headed back into the studio to create their second album ‘Circles’. The first single from this album is ‘Save Me’ for which they have created a video scheduled for release in early December 2012. Frankie and Johnno met at college as they shared a music class. After forming a quick friendship they decided to group together with mutual acquaintance Jay. They dreamed about forming a band and had small jam sessions when they could. After playing a few small gigs for fun they met Matt his enthusiasm for their music pushed them to focus more serious attention on their passion for music. From then on the band was no longer a hobby, but a lifestyle.
Audience Profile
Kelsey Graham is a 17 year old student from Derby. She’s currently in her last year of A Levels studying music, drama and English. In her free time she goes to festivals and concerts, her favourite festival being Reading. Her favourite bands include Paramore, My Chemical Romance and The Dejected (our media band). Kelsey herself plays guitar and would love to make a career in performance. She loves grunge fashion but puts her own feminine twist on it. She mainly wears dresses with boots or converse and a lot of accessories. She mainly shops in DollyMix, Accessorize and Urban Outfitters. Her tastes in both fashion and music would relate strongly with the music, video and general appearance of the band we have created. This is because the genre of ‘The Dejected’ is similar to the bands listed above and we based the fashion on feminine grunge. Kelsey enjoys horror films, her favourite being Silent Hill, this links in with the dark look of the video we are hoping to create.

Busted Video Evaluation
Pre-Production: Before we thought about making this video we were all individually filmed lip syncing. This was helpful practise, even if we did not use it on the Busted video because we may use it on our own original video. It also got everyone comfortable in front of the camera. As a class, we decided who would play which character in the video and organised what props and costumes we would need to bring in. This saved time later on because everybody was prepared. We used the original 'What I Go To School For' video, found on YouTube, to create a storyboard. This storyboard included a drawing of each individual shot and the time it was shown along with details such as duration of the clip, lighting, transition and the lyrics being sung at that time if any. The storyboard meant that throughout the editing process we could refer back to make sure our final product was as close to the original as possible. It helped with the timings of shots which allowed the lip syncing to look convincing. We also wrote up a shot list; this allowed us to organise each clip according to location. This meant we didn't waste time moving from one place to another, we simply filmed all the outside shots together, all the desk shots together, etc. Through the phase of pre-production I learnt how important an accurate storyboard is. I also feel I should have participated more in the editing process because it will help once I come to doing my own video. That said, I think me and Shannon worked well together and I think I have learnt about the editing software. Production: After looking through the shot list we decided to first film the outdoor shots. This was because the weather was good at this point and we could avoid wasting time later on if the weather was bad and we needed to film. The director would instruct the person in charge of sound at which point they wanted to track. The communication between the two worked well and it meant we didn't waste time trying to find the right part of the song. The camera man filmed each shot multiple times to make sure it was right, this also meant if the equipment failed to save a shot we had backups. Throughout the filming we referred back to our shot lists and storyboards to make sure we didn't miss anything and then have to re-film later. I learnt that as a director you have to be extremely clear in what you want from your actors. You can't be afraid to tell them what to do, and you have to have a clear vision in your head before you start shooting. Post Production: We used Adobe Premiere Elements and first we chose which shots to keep and which to delete. This took a long time but we worked logically from the start to the finish of the song so that we didn't miss a shot. Editing the clips together convincingly was very difficult because if you were slightly out on timings with one clip everything after that would be out too. We placed in the main clips first and then worked around them. Some clips, such as Mae writing on the board, had to be sped up and we cut some clips down so they would fit. We made adjustments such as lighting to make all the shots match more. We also zoomed in on a clip to crop out some of the shot that wasn't needed. Overview: I think we went through the right processes and had a good time frame in which to work. This allowed us to create an accurate remake of the Busted video. Using all the processes now such as storyboarding and editing has helped me to understand what will be expected from me when I make my own video. I will need to consider time as a large factor and I will need to be organised.
